Lastra a Signa is situated west of Florence where the Vingone torrent flow into the Arno River.
In the Middle Ages it was known as Lastra a Gangalandi, and was property of a branch of the counts Cadolingi di Fucecchio family and later of attempt of the white refugees to go blacks was foiled here.
Inside the walls, which maintain the building plan and structure, constructed in 1377 by the Florentine republic to limit the incursions of the inhabitants of Pisa, you can visit the Hospital of Sant'Antonio , perhaps a juvenile work of Brunelleschi (1411), who worked in Lastra to strengthen the walls, and the church of Santa Maria alla Lastra which dates back to 1404 and was later trasformed.
Of great importance is the Pretorio Palace . Not far from the city is intersting parish of San Martino in Gangalandi, a building of Romanesque origin which was modified between the XV and the XVI century. Inside you can see an evocative semicircular apse attributed to Leon Battista Alberti with its pure '400s forms and other works of the same period. In the chapel of the Baptistery there is a worthy marble font. In the small vicarial Museum there is a precious Madonna dell'Umiltà by Lorenzo Monaco.
Several great villas of the XV-XVI centuries stand on its territory: take note of villa Bellosguardo , with its Italian style garden.

In April, August and Dicember Antiques and Collectibles Market It takes place in the Historical centre of Lastra a Signa three times a year: on April 25
th, the last Sunday of August and on December 8 th . It is an important meeting for all those interested in furnishing and objectsof the past. Several exhibitor and collectors gather here.
